The biggest Chivalry 2 update since they added horses is out now. Like the previous updates, Duel of the Fetes adds some new maps (three deathmatch maps, in this case) to my favorite first-person medieval warfare game, but it most notably comes with two major new features: skill-based team balancing and support for unofficial servers.
Wherever the words “skill-based” appear, you know there’s going to be discourse, although in this instance, the player feedback has less to do with arguing about the principle of the thing and more to do with it not working right.
Unlike skill based matchmaking, a controversial feature in many multiplayer shooters, Chivalry 2’s new system doesn’t try to populate entire matches with players of similar skill. Instead, it attempts to comp…

Read moreNo one who’s suffering from technical problems in a game is fond of the guy who chimes in to say, “Well, it’s running fine for me,” but I have no choice but to be that guy here, because Lords of the Fallen is running fine for me. Sorry, I’m sorry!
It is not running fine for everyone: The just-released action RPG isn’t faring so well in the early Steam reviews, where it currently has a Mixed rating, largely due to players complaining about low frame rates, stuttering, and crashes, with some saying they can’t even get to the main menu.
Our Lords of the Fallen reviewer Harvey did encounter a small number of crashes himself, but that was over the course of 30 hours. Another of us crashed more frequently, while I and one other writer at PC Gamer haven’t seen any…
Read moreWill Eric Barone ever stop working on Stardew Valley? Someday, perhaps, but as Viggo Mortensen famously said, it is not this day: Because this day, Barone announced that another new patch is in the works that’s expected to be out this week.
Stardew Valley’s long-awaited 1.6 update was a massive undertaking, adding a new farm type, a trio of new festivals, new late-game content, support for eight-person multiplayer, and a whole bunch more. In spite of that size, and the excitement it inspired—the tankards of mayonnaise flowed freely—the rollout went quite smoothly.
Still, Barone continued to put out small updates to address issues that cropped up, like the “creepy face” bear who turned up in a maple syrup event, which may be the most Stardew Valley kind of bug ima…
Read moreI know it’s hard to believe but GTA 6 isn’t the only game that got a new trailer this week. Today the former Riot devs at Treehouse Games released their own trailer for 16-player co-op survival game Voyagers of Nera.
Coming to early access in 2024, you’re invited to grab your friends, explore the world, battle monsters, and build a huge base together on your very own tropical island. Check out the trailer below, which was shown today at the Wholesome Snack showcase:
If Voyagers of Nera looks a bit familiar that’s because it was announced back in July as Codename: Islands with a brief teaser that looked lovely but didn’t really give us much to go on. Today’s trailer is much more substantive with a good look at the characters, the world, the monsters you’ll battle, and t…
Read moreFor gamers, one of the most alluring possibilities created by Microsoft’s finally-completed acquisition of Activision Blizzard is the prospect of games like Call of Duty, Diablo, and Overwatch on Game Pass. Microsoft’s subscription service is already a hell of a deal, and adding annualized iterations of Call of Duty plus everything Blizzard does makes it even more attractive. And it will no doubt happen eventually, but not anytime soon: Activision said last week that its games won’t arrive on Game Pass until 2024 at the earliest, and in a recent interview with the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that timeline is “accurate.”
Fans had their fingers crossed for a big Activision rollout in large part because that’s what Microsoft did when it acquired Bethesda Softwo…
Read moreOver the last week stills and clips of a game called Deadlock, which is claimed to be the next big game from Valve, have been leaking online. The 6v6 hero shooter is either legit or an extremely good fake, and the latter’s looking increasingly unlikely with the volume of material that’s been released: today, there’s more. PC Gamer has contacted Valve for comment but, so far, there’s no response.
In the absence of any official word, we can’t say whether Deadlock really is Valve’s next game, but what’s undeniable is that there’s a beta version out there and elements of it do look like a Valve game. The leaks began with screenshots and a description from X user Gabe Follower, who specialises in Valve data-mining: “6 vs 6 battling on huge maps with 4 lanes. Usable abiliti…
Read moreResident Evil 4 remake is pretty great and, while it didn’t quite stick the landing for me, the core of the game is a combat system that can only be described as exquisite. The remake somehow keeps the same fundamental elements but, through judicious addition and re-working the ganados around Leon’s newfound ability to move while aiming, updates the brutality and intensity of the crowd-management while feeling like Resident Evil 4 every instant. The best sequences in this game are the massive fights against crowds of enemies.
R4 remake isn’t shy about showing them off either: You’ll have dozens, but the very first is a total blowout designed to give players a serious workout. It comes when Leon, having ventured from the outskirts, enters the village square for the first tim…
Read moreJust one week after adding Ubisoft Toronto to the list of studios trying to get Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake finished, Ubisoft gave us a new release target during its big livestream today—and it’s, uh, 2026.
That seems like an awful lot of time to remake a game that already exists, especially with two of Ubisoft’s biggest studios on the case—because remember, Ubisoft Montreal is still working on it too. But it’s already been in the works for twice that amount of time, although to be fair it was completely rebooted in 2023 for reasons that have never been made clear.
By that metric, then, it’ll only be three years of development time, which is still a long haul unless the plan is to significantly change the game—but if that’s the case, why not …
